Urbanisation and the longevity of malaria vectors

Does city growth change how long malaria mosquitoes live? A comparison of urban, semi-rural and rural settings in central Côte d'Ivoire, with LSHTM.

Role

  • First author and presenter of the study, awarded at the 9th Society for Vector Ecology International Congress.

Research question

Urbanisation is linked to lower malaria transmission, but does it also change the survival of the mosquitoes that carry the parasite?

Outcome

Mosquito longevity was measured by parity analysis across 18 collection sites. Findings were presented at SOVE 2025 and ASTMH 2025.
